Most industry-insiders know our story, but for those who don't, my name is Stephen Yeh and I, along with Patrick Seto (the General Manager of MFactory® Competition Products), were the ones solely responsible for putting "Performance Gearing" on the map for Honda.

When I created INFINITUDE Autosports back in 2004, there were other brands around at the time, most noticeably ATS with their B-Series Close Ratio Gears (and with JDM Brands come JDM Prices) and SRR with their D-Series Final Drives (and their spectacular failure rates), but they did not manage to achieve anything to the same scale.

There was one other brand in particular though that came about roughly the same time as INFINITUDE Autosports, offering near-identical products, but due to supplier agreements, I can't mention the name of this company.

Over the course of 3 years (between 2004-2006), INFINITUDE Autosports and these other 3 brands were battling it out in North America for domination over the Honda gearing market. ATS were dying a quick death, and SRR were nowhere to be seen. This left INFINITUDE Autosports and the "Other" brand to carry on the fight.

During the second half of 2006, Patrick Seto joined the team as General Manager, and an executive decision was made, one that would change the "Performance Gearing" market for Honda forever:

  • INFINITUDE Autosports was dissolved
  • MFactory® Competition Products was born
Over the next 2 years (2006-2008), with the guidance of Patrick Seto, MFactory® very quickly rose to prominence, introducing more and more product fitments to the Honda market

As quickly as we had achieved this though, I had realised that the Honda market was not growing in size but rather, slowly decreasing. With this in mind, another executive decision was made, a decision which would forever shape the roadmap for MFactory®:

  • In the later half of 2008, MFactory®, in conjunction with our supplier in Taiwan along with a multi-million dollar investment in property, facilities and state-of-the-art equipment, established a new company: Performance Gear Industrial Co., Ltd
  • Our supplier would still be responsible for the manufacturing of all existing product designs (i.e products sold by INFINITUDE/MFactory® circa 2004-2008), but would only handle development for the oem/odm market from this point forward. Due to an agreement-in-place, our supplier would still remain in the public-eye as the only Performance Gearing Manufacturer in Taiwan
  • Performance Gear Industrial Co., Ltd, operating exclusively behind-the-scenes, would be solely responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of the entire Aftermarket Performance Gearing market
From 2008 onwards, Performance Gear Industrial Co., Ltd was responsible for all new projects, designs which would differentiate MFactory® from our competitors, designs which would eventually help us to dominate not only the Honda market worldwide, but other popular vehicle markets. As of this moment, MFactory® are the worlds largest supplier of Performance Transmission products for the Honda and Mazda market, and North America's largest for BMW.

In early 2015, with Patrick Seto still operating MFactory® as the General Manager, I made the executive decision to sell my majority share in MFactory® to YCW Engineering Ltd (the R&D division of Performance Gear Industrial Co., Ltd), and bring YCW Engineering Ltd out from behind the scenes and into the public-eye. Not only does this ensure the continued growth of MFactory®, but also allows me to realise my engineering dreams and expand YCW Engineering Ltd into a truly global enterprise and not just limited to gearing products.

Fast forward to 2022, MFactory® is growing stronger than ever (albeit without my direct involvement), and YCW Engineering Ltd is gaining prominent ground in the specialist motorsports engineering marketplace, once again putting "Made in Taiwan" on the map and something to be proud of (in case you weren't aware, the majority of industry leaders have now relocated their manufacturing to Mainland China). From precision machined IndyCar engine components to high-end chassis development, the opportunities are boundless.

So where does INFINITUDE Autosports come in, I hear you ask? The one term that comes to mind is Grassroots. Being the the baby that started all of this, what better way to show my appreciation to the Grassroots Honda Market than to revive the catalyst that put this whole story into motion!

And so, having purchased all of the original 2004-2008 discontinued/clearance stock from MFactory®, INFINITUDE Autosports is reborn! Visit us at: INFINITUDE Autosports

Stephen Yeh - General Manager, INFINITUDE Autosports

Swift Springs was founded in 1997 in Tokyo Japan as a motor sports division of Tokyo Hatsujo Manufacturing Co, Ltd. that has been leading the spring industry since 1924

The purpose was to demonstrate our superior engineering in spring technology by developing the next generation of motor sports suspension coil springs. They had to have the best characteristics of any brand or design on the market, which required the springs to be the lightest in weight and most durable, and to exhibit the most linear characteristics while still being cost effective.

Since the formation of Swift, it has been lead by the former racer and suspension expert, Kei Yokota, and the chief engineer, Yasu Saito.

Their first-hand involvement within the race industry has propelled Swift quickly through the ranks of some of the world’s most reputable races. Swift springs quickly became one of the most recognised and respected names in performance coil springs in many genre of motorsports throughout the world. Being a part of the Tokyo Hatsujo spring corporation, Swift has a large collection of engineering research and development resources. Tokyo Hatsujo springs are used in most light to heavy industries and the dynamic has provided Swift with the most advanced spring technologies and innovations available.

Swift’s impressive motor sports history dates back to 1998. First was with Nissan Skyline GT-R in the Super Taikyu Endurance championship series in Japan. Then Swift got involved with the championship teams in Le Mans 24hrs, Nurburgring 24hrs, Super GT (JGTC), Super Taikyu series, D-1 World Grand Prix, F3, F3000, Formula Toyota, Circle Track Racing (ashpalt/dirt) and many other world-class races.

The Swift Advantage
When drivers look at a set of springs, they concentrate mainly on the rates, but the material and manufacturing process is equally important. Most enthusiasts will tell you that all springs are the same... we asked some professional drivers for their opinions...

"I just replaced my springs to Swift Springs with same spring rate, and somehow the car behaves totally different now"

"Since I've swapped the springs from another brand to Swift, my lap times became very consistent throughout the entire race due to cooler tire temperatures, which saves tire wear"

"We have tested our Swift-equipped race cars on a shaker rig, and the Swift Springs have a lot less harmonic vibration"

"My car is a lot smoother with Swift Springs even though same spring rate were chosen, especially on bad surfaces"

The many positive comments Swift Springs receive would have you believe that Swift Springs is surprised to hear such things in the first place; we are simply getting confirmation that our engineering not only works on paper, but is also proven through use in the field (track). Now, allow us to provide a few reasons as to why we get this kind of feedback from our users.

Priorities that we always have in mind when we develop suspension springs
Surely you have read some spring manufacturers catalogues before, and you have read that they all claim to have the 4 factors listed below:

  • The most consistent spring rate throughout the stroke
  • The largest amount of stroke
  • The highest durability against loss of spring height
  • The lightest in weight
We like to believe that all suspension spring manufacturers try their best to achieve these 4 factors. Top suspension tuners know that these 4 factors play an intricate role when considering the effectiveness of the suspension coil spring.

Our parent company, Tohatsu, has been winding industrial springs since 1924. Tohatsu then decided to get in to the auto racing market in 1996. Based on long-time experience dealing with coil springs, we came up with one goal: "We must make the product that will revolutionise the ones we see on the market now." Keeping this goal in mind, we went back to the basics of coil spring design and asked ourselves what is the most important factor that we need to consider on this new project.

The Answer?

- Maintaining tire grip is the key to faster times and suspension springs take on an enormous portion of this task!

All Springs are not created equal. The diameters and spring rates can be similar, but the process of manufacturing springs plays a huge factor in how they will perform. Through our extensive knowledge in performance springs, we have perfected the process of manufacturing springs that will outperform our competitors.

With this in mind, we set out to produce a new material for coil springs: a proprietary steel alloy we call "HS5.TW". This material was created in order to maintain the 4 factors listed above, as well as achieving the fastest reaction speed possible to get compliance on road surface conditions. Our springs are created with proprietary winding methods, as well as some other trade secrets focused on ensuring our springs separation from the standard market.

In the time since Swift Springs officially opened its doors in 1997, Swift Springs has dealt with many world class race teams in multitudes of different races including road racing, rally, off road, drift, autocross, pavement and dirt oval track, motorcycles, and more. Swift Springs has lifted many racers to a podium finish, and is still continuing to do so. With so much experience behind us, we feel confident that our springs will give you a leg up in any kind of race you participate in.

Try Swift Springs on your vehicle, and experience what many racers are talking about. We strongly believe that you will feel the difference just like every other racer, and you might even wonder why you didn't try it sooner!

Note: Some of our racers are using Swift Springs on 2 corners only, but to achieve the best results from Swift Springs, we highly recommend using them on all corners of the vehicle due to the very different characteristics of Swift springs.

Established in 2010, YCW Suspension, in partnership with Swift Springs, is the accumulation of over 15 years experience in the performance suspension industry, with our roots stemming back to the mid 1990’s and the then adolescent import market. Recognising the growth potential of what is now a multi-million dollar industry, and the lack of grassroots friendly manufacturers, our aim and reason for being is to offer a cost-efficient and new-age customer-orientated alternative to the more traditional performance suspension specialists.

Bringing the Grassroots back to Grassroots and recognising their thirst for DIY, our unique business-model is to make readily available each and every individual component required to build/rebuild dampers; unlike our competition, this is something we actively encourage. Our aim at YCW Suspension is to offer a full knowledge base for grassroot racers to calculate, build and tune their own dampers to meet their requirements. And thus, the YCW Suspension "Dry Kits" were born; highly customisable, highly cost-effective with unlimited tuning potential. For similar cost to a budget coilover kit and a few hours of your time (infact, with enough practise, you can knock out a damper in only 15mins), you can have a fully-bespoke coilover kit that could otherwise cost you thousands! Of course, if DIY is not up-your-alley, we also work directly with several specialist builders that will be more than happy to help you build your dampers for you for a fee. All of these builders have been assessed and certified by YCW Suspension, so you can rest-assured that they will do the job properly.

With the correct, high-quality components and the specialist tools/guides provided by YCW Suspension free-of-charge, no longer is damper building/tuning a "Black Art" reserved for big-budget race teams; basic garage tools and a day getting your hands oily is sufficient enough to build a set of dampers that will outperform most off-the-shelf coilover kits on the market. In fact, with a little bit of future investment and practise, your dampers can outperform the majority of the "big brand" coilover kits as well, and you will never again have to pay another company hundreds of dollars to rebuild your dampers for you when servicing time comes.

At YCW Suspension, we like to keep things transparent and go against the grain when it comes to telling the truth about our R&D, manufacturing and sourcing processes:

British Engineering
  • All of our prototype mounts are, in collaboration with our partner facility in Preston, designed and machined in the UK by British engineers
  • All of our prototype components are designed in-house using Solidworks 3D CAD software by British engineers
Japanese Precision
  • All of the coil springs that we offer are manufactured by Tokyo Hatsujyo Manufacturing Co.,Ltd (i.e Swift Springs). We do not use the vastly inferior Yang Min Enterprise/Triple-S springs from Taiwan that the majority of budget manufacturers use
  • All of our standard self-lubricating teflon-lined spherical bearings are supplied by NSK
  • All of our premium spherical bearings are genuine NMB brand. The cost of these alone are more than what some full coilover kits sourced from China/Taiwan cost!
Taiwanese Manufacturing
  • All of our aluminium-based development mounts and specialist components are machined in-house at YCW Engineering
  • All of our steel-based development mounts, damper bodies and piston rods are manufactured for us by our partner facility in Taiwan
  • All of our rubber bushings are manufactured for us by Hardrace
  • All of our valving shims are machined in-house at YCW Engineering using genuine Swedish Sandvik 20C Carbon Steel
With the multitude of off-the-shelf budget coilover kits currently on the market, you may be asking "Why bother building my own?" and what benefits, if any, are there to be had from using a truly-bespoke coilover kit built to meet your exact requirements?

Although there are a lot of mass-market off-the-shelf budget coilover kits available, aside from a few aesthetic changes, they are all based on generic designs, generic technology and generic assembly practices introduced over the past 15 years or so. Infact, the top selling mass-market coilovers that are currently on the market are all manufactured from the same technical drawings originating from Taiwan! Colloquially known in Taiwan as the Taichung-gang, the mass-market designs can be traced back to the original company; Taiwan Bor-Chuann (BC Racing), of whom were contracted to mass-produce coilover kits for a certain JDM Brand. From there, 2 of their engineers left to startup their own companies; D2 Racing and STD (Standard Tuning Design) respectively, from which then spawned a countless number of coilover companies around the world (Fun Fact: Taiwanese companies refrain from hiring Male staff unless absolutely necessary for the sole reason that once they've got a few years experience behind them, they will simply leave and setup their own competing company). Different Brand/Manufacturer; Same Product/Design/Performance

In this day and age, it is indeed very simple and cost effective to have basic structural components manufactured from aluminium or steel. Provided basic manufacturing standards are adhered to, there is no difference in quality between an aluminium or steel component manufactured in the USA than one manufactured in China or Taiwan.

Unfortunately, whilst the basic structural components are often of sufficient quality, the nature of mass-market manufacturing often means poor quality service components being used (i.e Wear parts, such as Shims, Oil Seals, Damper Fluid, Bushings and Springs), a lack of proper quality control during damper assembly (the majority of these companies do not have an in-house shock dyno, durability tester nor shaker rig. Most of them have never even heard of vacuum-assembly nor pressure tuning before) and, more importantly, a generic off-the-shelf valving profile that was not tuned for your specific requirements (certain companies may say their products have "custom valving", but is it really custom if every customer gets the same "custom valving" and is just mass-manufactured for them on an assembly line from one of the Taichung-gang?). Whilst we understand the budget constraints of most consumers, all we suggest is that if you do decide to go down the off-the-shelf route, please do your due diligence in advance. This applies to all of the off-the-shelf "big brand" kits as well, not just the budget kits.

A simply analogy would be: An off-the-shelf suit vs a custom-made tailored suit. Whilst the off-the-shelf suit can be good quality (depending on brand), they will never fit as well as a custom-made tailored suit.

Disclaimer: YCW Suspension feel no ill-regards towards any of the mass-market manufacturers and do not look down on their products in any way, shape or form. We understand there is a huge demand for their low cost product, and that they are simply filling a need in the market. It is always the consumers responsibility to do their own due diligence on the quality of the parts that they purchase
